Darley Park - Saturday 7 June 2025

MapActive Navigation Course

About this event

Learn orienteering techniques for hill walking, fell running or mountain marathons

Join Stage 2 of our MapActive course which will take place on Saturday 7th (Darley Park) and Saturday 14th June (Allestree Park) to become a more confident map reader and explore new trails, woods or urban areas. There are also Thursday evening follow-up Zoom sessions to answer any questions and reinforce learning.

Participants progressing from Stage 1 (and those with a more in-depth understanding of orienteering maps) will learn skills such as:

  • Visualising map information and simplifying it to make route choices more quickly.
  • Using ‘attack’ points to help to find controls away from handrails (e.g.  paths, fences).
  • Basic understanding of how slopes and valleys are shown on maps using contours.

This is Stage 2 of the course which must be pre-entered. Learn more here.
