Derby City - Saturday 12 April 2025

Dracula Novelty Urban Event

About this event

Four courses will be available, all visiting places connected with Dracula and Derby’s gothic past:

  • Newcomers ~ 1.5k
  • Improvers ~ 1.7k
  • Short technical ~ 2.5k
  • Long technical ~ 3.5k

Entry fees of £5 per family of group cover hire of a timing chip or ‘dibber’, plus a map overprinted with the checkpoints you need to find. If you have time, you can do a second course for free. Please come early if you want to do this, as checkpoints will be removed from 4pm onwards.

Registration is in the Museum of Making, upstairs in the gift shop. Open 12:30 til 3pm.

We encourage Dracula/gothic fancy dress!

Beginners to orienteering are very welcome. We show you how to use the map to find your way between the checkpoints, and ‘dib’ with the timing chip when you get there. It’s fun, and you can take your time or race round them all like a hungry bat!

The play Dracula had its UK premier in Derby on 15 May 1924 at the Grand Theatre, and in 1951 Hollywood’s Bela Lugosi once again donned his cape at Derby’s Hippodrome Theatre. Find out more about the Dracula Returns to Derby project!

We recommend parking at Bold Lane car park, 10 mins walk away. Bring your parking card and it can be franked at the Museum, so you only pay £2.70 for the day. Alternatively, you can park 2 minutes away at Sowter Road car park: £3.50 for 3 hours, £4.50 for 5 hours or £5 for upto 12 hours.
