Shipley Country Park - Saturday 14 December 2024

Local Event

About this event

Shipley Country Park has it all; old parkland, runnable beech forest, reclaimed pit tips, open meadows and remarkably few brambles.  Situated between Ilkeston and Heanor, it is beautifully maintained and courses are offered to suit young and not so young, fit and not so fit, novice, improvers and experienced orienteers. This is a great time of year to run round the park as the undergrowth will be at its lowest. The added bonus will be that start and finish will be close to the visitor centre.

Four courses will be available:

–Beginners (White standard) – 1.5km, 25m climb
–Improvers (Yellow) – 2.6km, 25m climb
–Medium Technical (Orange) – 3.5km, 65m climb
–Long Technical (Light Green) – 4.8km, 90m climb

£5 for adults, £3 for children (fee covers groups going round together). Maps included, and timing is with the FREE MapRun app. Anyone without a Smartphone can use pin-punching to prove they’ve found the checkpoints.

We’ve added some urban to the map for a new twist, but only Long Technical will take you outside the park. Please note the earlier course closing time of 15.00 due to limited daylight at this time of year.
