I hope everyone enjoyed the event and the opportunity to have a late season
picnic. As with last year at Linacre, Viv and I put controls out on the Saturday
afternoon in the rain and increasing gloom but luckily for us Sunday dawned
fair.
To those of you who complained about the handicapping - you may have a case
but you know the solution! Perhaps I did give Robert and Val too generous a
start but the very close finishes on the Medium suggest a very competitive run
there. Perhaps it's about time we had a separate trophy for the medium course
- though we wouldn't want to encourage 'trophy hunting'!
There is perhaps a case for using 30 second intervals on the Long Course as
those starting at the very end have an almost impossible margin to make up within
6 kilometres.
Congratulations to Robert Shooter, this year's Senior Club Champion, and to
Simon Wright, the Junior Champion.
Congratulations also to Teige Malley who won the mass sprint on the Medium Course.
It's a shame that so many club members don't see this as the event for them
by either not entering or finding a more attractive event on the day. In particular,
it was disappointing to see so few juniors.
Thanks to Mike Godfree for controlling the event and, as a result, improving
the quality of the courses and helping enormously with getting maps printed.
Thanks also to Viv (and Moss) for help with planning and putting out controls;
to Andy, Malc and Mike for collecting them in; and to the National Trust for
permission to use the area.
