Planner's Comments
Thank you all for turning up. I hope you enjoyed your runs. I'd like to thank Alan for all his advice and help through the planning stages and on the day and Paul for helping us have a great assembly area.
A hot summer led to a great deal of bracken on the area in the Autumn. What we really wanted was a good snow fall before the event to flatten it all. Unfortunately we didn't get it, so there was a little more bracken on the area than I'd hoped. I also found that the lower slopes on the area had rather more brambles than I'd hoped. The courses were therefore planned to avoid the worst of them (originally I had hoped to use the contours on the lower slope but the brambles there meant this was impossible).
The other constraints were the car park which meant we started and finished near the top of the area. As we had the crags near the top of the area, I also wanted to make sure you only went up through the crags and not down, so all courses were planned to start and use the taped route through those crags and avoid other major crags. That left us with the finish slightly lower down the hill, but I guessed most people would prefer the climb after the finish rather than during the courses.

Organisers Comments
Thank you for coming to and making this event the success it was. I hope you enjoyed your runs.
Thanks go to
Cllrs Allen King and Cllr Valerie Thorpe of Amber Valley BC for presenting the
trophies on what was a bitterly cold night
Mr and Mrs P Dawes of Bowmer Rough Farm
Neil, Emma, Sam, Katie and Georgia Dawes
The Estate of Mr Smith and Severn Trent for the use of Crich Chase
TransCo for the use of the Hagg
Derby Mountain Rescue for first aid and safety cover
1st Crich Scout Group for the homemade soup stall and overnight accommodation
Belper News, Ripley and Heanor News and Derby Evening Telegraph for publicity
and also to Mike and Allan for the courses
Neil Dawes and Andrew Miller (AN Lighting) are hoping to set up a business with outdoor lighting so if the coloured O symbols took your fancy you know where to go. They certainly made the difference to the assembly area. Mind you should see the farm at Christmas - you can see it from the A38!
If you have a local angle on the event why not write a short article and email it to your local paper. They usually publish verbatim and gives the sport some useful publicity. Don't forget your next events at the bottom of the article Jane Barlow from the Derby Evening Telegraph was taking photographs throughout the event. We hope to be able to reproduce a selection in the near future.

Controllers Comments
From my perspective the event was success. I had initially been concerned by the amount of undergrowth on Crich. Fortunately he cold winter weather lowered the Bracken and Mike adjusted the courses to avoid the worse of the brambles. From the comments that I heard peoples opinions of the courses were positive and we had no complaints to deal with. Paul's hard work provided us with a compact assembly and parking area and gave the event a good atmosphere. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you all for coming.
Allan Williams
