Planners Comments
If I had a pound for every person who said ‘That was brutal. That climb!’ on Thursday, I’d be a rich woman. It’s Matlock, those of us at the Finish cried!
My planning strategy for the event was to minimise the number of times you had to go down the hill then up the hill then down the hill etc, to take you to bits of Matlock you’d not seen before, to minimise the downhill running on potentially lethal jitties, to be safe, to be brutal with Course 1 and progressively kinder on the remaining courses. Matlock has a huge river running through it. The RAF practice manoeuvers up and down the valley because it is so steep, so inevitable there was climb. But I hope the sunshine, the lack of ice, the tricky jitties and introduction to east Matlock made you glad you’d come out.
It was lovely to work with Kim, organiser par excellence and the kind, knowledgeable, pragmatic Colin from SYO. Thank you officials, everyone who ran and all the volunteers who gave our friends from across the country a warm DVO welcome.
