DVO are keen to encourage orienteering in primary and secondary schools and Youth Groups.
To support teachers and students we recommend looking at the website to ‘Orienteering Services for Schools @OS4Schools which involves some members of DVO as explained below.
Founders Jim Jenkinson and Rex Bleakman explain more about what they can offer…
@OS4Schoools, we have A passion to inspire others to explore by:
- Engaging all children to learn and move
- Supporting your school to broaden its PE curriculum
- Equipping staff to confidently teach and inspire their pupils
The website www.orienteeringforschools.co.uk will tell you all you need to know about our Orienteering services for Primary and Secondary schools/colleges and how you can develop your PE curriculum with progressive OAA and cross-curricular skill development.
Please have a browse and we would really welcome your feedback.
At @OS4Schools our principal aim has always been to give primary and secondary school students the opportunity to develop a range of skills (cognitive, physical and social) that will enable them to participate in and enjoy the sport of Orienteering but also encourage them to live an active life. By offering a comprehensive range of services, we are able to equip schools, colleges and other organisations with Orienteering maps and courses for their school or local park, plus the resources and knowledge that will help their staff in teaching the cross-curricular skills of Orienteering. This gives the participants numerous opportunities to enjoy Orienteering-based activities and challenges.
The history of our association with DVO
It is safe to say that Orienteering owes much to DVO! In 2003 Rex, retired Headteacher, coach and regular Orienteer, established Orienteering Services. He was convinced that, in multiple elements of their development, Orienteering had much to offer young people,
He has been ably supported by his fellow Derwent Valley Orienteers (DVO) friends; Mike Godfree, an excellent Cartographer and Sal Chaffey, a cartographer and coach. Sal is also the Publicity Officer for DVO.
In 2018, Jim Jenkinson joined the team. As an enthusiastic primary school teacher & PE specialist, Jim has led on the introduction of Schemes of Work offering a clear progression of skills from KS1 to KS3.
Our services are now available Nationwide. Together we have, to date, been able to map and introduce Orienteering to over 100 schools and other institutions (Parks and Colleges).
