Junior Awards Scheme

Junior Awards Scheme

Derwent Valley Orienteers have introduced our own scheme for encouraging juniors and their families to progress. We hope that they will go from learning the basics at school, to having fun at inter-school orienteering competitions then developing their skills at our Saturday Park events. Then move on to completing courses at our Local and Regional Club Events.

There are three parts to the scheme:

  • eXplorer award scheme based on the British Schools Orienteering Association each junior can earn certificates and badges by collecting points based on finding controls at activities and events
  • Family Challenge – how many different types of event can you do?
  • Skills development record

To join the scheme ask for a log book at a DVO event or download and print your own log book.

To get certificates and badges for the eXplorer award scheme the rules are:

  • 7 points for School Orienteering (teacher to initial record – only 1 to count)
  • 9 points for an inter-schools Orienteering competition (only one to count)
  • 1 point for each control visited at a DVO event up to maximum of 15

Certificates are free to all who participate

Badges are charged at £1 for non-members and are free to DVO members (juniors can join for £6 a year).

If you want to share the flyer with a friend you can download a copy.

To claim your certificates and badges ask at any DVO event or email
