Hardwick Park - Sunday 19 May 2024

E M League & Yvette Baker heat

About this event

Orienteer at Hardwick Park in our East Midlands League event. The park is lovely in May, with the hills, re-wilding and terraced ponds adding navigational challenge. Nine courses will be available to enter in advance (or on the day), course length, climb and suitability as follows:

  • White (1.5 km distance, 45m climb) – families with young children
  • Yellow (2.1 km, 50m) – families/older children
  • Yellow/Orange (3.2 km, 80m) – improvers/older children – a longer course suited to regular runners
  • Light Green (3.6 km, 75m) – some experience ideally!
  • Very Short Green (2.4 km, 45m) – a less physical course for older competitors, but with full nav challenge (less climb than other courses)
  • Short Green (3.1 km, 75m) – older participants
  • Green (5.0 km, 80m) – navigationally challenging, medium distance
  • Blue (7.1 km, 120m) – navigationally challenging, longer distance
  • Brown (8.9 km, 150m) – navigationally challenging, longest course

These distances are the optimal route that competitors can take, not straight line routes between controls, and take into accounting deviating from the straight line to use fence crossing points.

All fences and walls are not to be crossed except at marked crossing points.

New to orienteering? Our volunteers will help you get started with using the orienteering map and the dibber (timing chip) that we use. Online entries are open on Fabian, see link below.

Yvette Baker Trophy: This event incorporates a heat of the Yvette Baker Trophy – could juniors who are also members of an orienteering club please let their team captains know that they are entering? DVO juniors – please email Ann-Marie.
