Markeaton - Saturday 4 May 2024

MapActive Navigation Course Stage 1

About this event

Learn orienteering techniques for hill walking, fell running or mountain marathons

Join Stage 1 of our MapActive course which will take place on Saturday 4th and Saturday 11th May to become a more confident map reader and explore new trails, woods or urban areas.

From little or no orienteering experience participants will develop an understanding of orienteering maps and how to use them.

Participants will learn how to:

  • relate features on the map to the ground
  • choose and follow a route using line features (handrails – e.g.  paths, fences).
  • progress to following routes to checkpoints on and not far off handrails and to cut corners between handrails

This is Stage 1 of the course which must be pre-entered. Learn more here.
