Derby Night MapRun series – Autumn 23

Results

We have come to the end of our 8 event night series with 100+ runners taking up the maprun challenge. We had over 220 finishes! We have been so impressed with how quickly newcomers got to grips with the app and coped with some tricky navigation.

The good news is that we have planned another 8 events in the New Year, starting in Heanor on 18th Jan.

Our recent events welcomed competitors from Chesapeake Road Runners, Explorer Scouts and a Men’s social for a 35 control score around Chaddesden, Allestree, Alvaston and Markeaton Park. Mass start video from our Allestree event here.

Two of our events visited Darley Park and competitors had to grapple with a mix of Urban and Parkland terrain. We were joined by members of Shelton Striders, Derwent Runners and Derby Tri club who took up the challenge and we were so impressed with how quickly newcomers have got to grips with the app and coped with some tricky navigation! Torches were certainly needed from the start. Click here to see one of the mass starts.

Other events have visited Mickleover (where we met up with Mickleover running club) and Derby North (several unaffiliated runners were tempted by the real ales at the Furnace Inn). Terrain has been varied and has involved navigating mazes of alleyways, quiet back streets and open parkland. All in the dark!

Take part at future runs in series

See details about venues, maps for download and what you need to bring along if you’d like to take part in future Mapruns. You can also run any of the 8 Mapruns in your own time if you can’t make it to the evening sessions – the courses will be available on the app for at least the next six months! You can navigate using the MapRun map on your smartphone, but if you prefer to print out the map and plan your route – use these links.
