9AM update – Event confirmed going ahead
This is based on us reviewing the forecast and it seems that any rain and thunder will be for a short period.
About the event
Join us for the last of our series of events in the Derby parks this summer. It’s aimed at newcomers to orienteering, whether you want to walk or run in a family group, or perhaps you’re a runner looking for a new type of challenge.
Now the golf course at Allestree is being rewilded, Allestree is an even better place to orienteer with a variety of terrain from the paths around the lake and through the woods to more challenging terrain with old earthworkings further up the hill.
If you can’t make this event, we have two Find Your Way activities during the school holidays. These are also suitable for beginners. These use printed maps and smartphones to record your visits to controls.

Entries and other event details
We are offering Short and Improvers courses for beginners, and Medium and Long Technical courses for experienced orienteers. Courses available are:
- Short (White/Yellow standard) 1.3km. 45m climb, 11 controls;
- Improvers (Yellow/Orange Standard) 2.7km, 75m climb, 14 controls;
- Medium Technical (Light Green standard and no steep climbs) 3.2km, 75m climb, 13 controls;
- Long Technical (as tricky as the terrain allows) 5.4km 115m climb, 20 controls.
Note that courses have been designed to avoid the worst of the undergrowth but you are advise to wear leg cover. The council have mown some wide paths through the meadows which give easier running. These do not necessarily follow the mapped paths. There are also numerous small paths through the open and less open woodland which, in order to keep the map legible, have not been mapped.
Fees:
Seniors £5.00 and Juniors £3.00
These are the fees for a Level D (Local) event
How to enter
Since this is a smaller event, entry is on-the-day only rather than online.
