EM League Event

Level: C (Regional)

Organiser: David Vincent

Organising an event like today’s is a doddle with our super efficient teams system.
So many of you doing organisation in the background that I’m not aware of so that, on the day, parking, start, finish, download are simply set up and done with little effort from me. Thank you team leaders, and thanks to all the people that helped you today.
I’d like to particularly mention Malcolm for leading his parking team so effectively. Parking can be a real stress for an organiser – so many crucial things that could go wrong! Malcolm made several trips to the field, spent hours there yesterday taping off unsuitable areas, arranged to borrow a Landover today in case any towing was needed, and – as usual – had an emergency back-up plan ready to swing into action if the field had proved unusable.
The Buxton start team – they just arrive and get the job done – no fuss – and what a professional job!
Similarly for the finish: I had it as my next job to do, when John Duckworth arrived and simply took it off my hands.
We expect, as competitors, that download will work flawlessly and efficiently, but we should remember that they have switched to a new system within the last year. It is testament to Mike and his team’s professionalism that some of you might not even have realised!
Control collection is one of the jobs that requires real effort, at a time when you just want to get home and relax. So it isn’t surprising that Graham always has work to do arranging this. With our aging membership, this isn’t going to get any easier. Can I put out a plea for a few more to try it? The more helpers of course, the easier it is.
Having John Hurley as controller was so comforting! So thorough, and so professional, I knew that everything was going to be covered – thank you John.
My inbox shows about 200 emails relating to the event over the last two months…just a couple more to do!
Finally, special thanks to Jane and Nicky who covered for me at the end so that I could have a run and enjoy David’s Green.
Many thanks everyone,

Planner: David Newton

I hope everyone enjoyed their runs.  Its a shame you weren’t able to enjoy the glorious autumn sunshine that I had when putting out the controls on Saturday. Believe it or not, there are stunning views across the Peak District to both the south and the north, all the way across to Kinder.  We were told rather late in the day that we were not allowed access to the woods to the south of the moor, which was a shame as I had originally planned the courses to explore the good contour detail in there and add some variety. As it was, some of you ended up with a longer leg along the fence line than I would have liked.  That said, I did enjoy watching people tackle the contour detail and the final controls to the north, where one knoll looks very much like another! Thanks for the comments and feedback at the finish.
David
