About this event
Holmebrook Valley Park lies on the western edge of Chesterfield, and the map covers hilly parkland with a lake, and some urban areas, which are visited by the Long and Medium courses. We have booked the Community Room, and the Start and Finish are close by.
The Short course is entirely within the park, and suitable for older children to run on their own, with friends, or shadowed at a distance by an adult.
The event is suitable for child or adult beginners, and is held on this date as we have a forest event on Sunday 22nd November in nearby Linacre Reservoirs.
Come along and find the Brick Ball!

Latest updates about this event
Three courses are available, pre-marked on the map. We can loan you a “dibber” or timing chip that records your time at each checkpoint. At the end, you get a printout of your “split times”.
The entry fee of £5 or £3 covers an individual or group of adults, and a single child or group of children going round a course with one dibber. You can tackle a second or third course for an extra £1, but please come early if you want to fit in all three!
If you need help with the map reading, please ask at Registration.
Dogs are not allowed on the orienteering courses.

How to enter
Since this is a smaller event, entry is on-the-day only, at the event, rather than online.
Online entries will remain open until a day or two before the event. Entry on the day at event registration will be available subject to the number of maps remaining for different courses. Estimates of map availability for different courses will be provided here just before the event, if limited.
Insurance
A quick reminder for newcomers: participants who are not members of British Orienteering are not covered by British Orienteering's public liability insurance.
For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered. By taking part in this event, you acknowledge that you are participating at your own risk.
Competitor safeguarding, well-being and assistance
Derwent Valley Orienteers strives to be an inclusive club. We are committed to providing events which support the safety, safeguarding and welfare of competitors and volunteers. Please read these pages to find out more:
- Please tell us about relevant medical conditions - this could help save your life
- Safeguarding - includes safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
- Photography at events - Please note that photos may be taken of participants competing at our club events.
If you require any assistance please contact the organiser. This includes advice for beginners or older competitors on the physical and technical difficulty of the courses as well as assistance for competitors who are neurodivergent and may like a quiet start or someone to pick up your bib or download your dibber after your run. We want everyone to have the best experience possible and if you don't ask, we won't know how we can help you achieve that.
