British Championships success for Rachel

Rachel Duckworth, W20 Champion 2022 and now 2023!

Twenty-one Club members took part in the British Championships weekend, consisting of an individual race at Cold Ash, Berkshire, followed by a Relay at Hambleden on the Sunday. DVO’s Rachel Duckworth won the W20 race, retaining her 2022 title as W20 British Champion! She ran the 8km course in 64 minutes, finishing 9 minutes ahead of the 2nd place runner, Elizabeth Horsler of Wimbourne Orienteering Club. Congratulations Rachel!  M70 Andrew Middleton also made it onto the medals podium, tying for 3rd place – showing that every second counts!

Four Relay Teams competed at Hambleden in Oxfordshire the following day. Rachel made the podium again, competing in the Men’s Short class with her dad John and Richard Parkin. Rachel ran first leg, finishing 6th of 28 teams. Solid runs by Richard then John pulled the team up to Bronze medal position! The winning team, Clyde Destroyers, also included a woman on first leg. This is unusual, but within the rules!
