    Midlands Championships and UKOL

    Level: B (National)

    Note added: 9th Sept:

    Please bear with us while we prepare final results for the Midlands Championships. Technical issues on the day have been partly resolved, and we are working on the checking and confirmation.

    First, apologies from the results team for the results. The master computer decided to give up literally as the last competitor came down the run-in. At present we can find no way to get it back up and working (too much water in the system or just died!), but we are still trying.

    However, I am able to recreate most of the results without split times and should be able to create the file to get the results into the BOF system for BOF event ranking points (though may take some time as need to cross reference to entries to get everyone’s BOF numbers, etc.

    The results should be below. If anyone has a major discrepancy let me know.

    Controllers Comments

    The DVO machine is petty well oiled and the event would have run smoothly without me. Nicola and Richard worked tirelessly over the last few months to ensure the Midland Champs was worthy to be a championship. Richard’s courses were planned to the BOF course ratios. It’s very difficult to do anything different from the events from 2019 & 2021 except in a different direction. I gave a few suggestions – some were taken on board and some weren’t but I left the decision with Richard and I am more than happy with the final result.

    Nicola was a delight to work with. She was thoughtful and an excellent communicator. A level B event comes with extra commitments which the average punter may not realise. The biggest grumble of the day is the finish control wasn’t SIAC enabled as per the final details. This was an oversight but reflects how well the event was organised.

    Organisers Comments

    I hope you all enjoyed the day at Chinley Churn. A bit more drama than the organiser really wanted. High winds early in the morning blew the urinal across the arena field and buffeted the portable toilets. Torrential rain and thunderstorm in the afternoon.

    Richard’s courses made up for all this with their own dramatic impact. I’ve had tremendous support in organising the event – nearly 50 stalwart helpers from DVO and beyond who all willingly put a shoulder to the wheel. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped and advised me all the way through the preparation and on the day – you know who you are!
