DVO opportunity – could you be our new access coordinator?

Following Viv’s retirement as Access Coordinator (with our grateful thanks for all her work) we now need a willing club member to step into her shoes and carry out this key but not onerous role.
The position is vital for the club to ensure we take care to request and obtain permission from landowners for the use of our areas in a timely way so that our planned events can go ahead; and keep track of their responses (or lack of).

Viv has maintained an essential table with a list of our areas, the DVO Access Afficer for each one and the contact details of the landowner, as well as notes on any use restrictions and the preferred months for orienteering there. Viv has also created access audit trail records with more underlying detail for individual areas.

The role involves:

  • taking over Viv’s table of areas (a word document) and keeping it up-to-date;
  • for each new fixture, emailing the DVO access officer responsible for the area and asking them to obtain permission for the event – and keeping track of permission requests and responses;
  • attending Fixtures Committee meetings, 4 x yearly on a Tuesday;
  • informing John Cooke , who will update the fixtures spreadsheet on the website with the status of the permission (requested or approved).

So the job is not very time-consuming but it’s a responsibility that needs careful
oversight and attention.
