Derby Night MapRuns – Autumn 2024

Results

Our Derby MapRun series Autumn 2024 has concluded! Great to joined by local running clubs, those up for a navigation and fitness challenge, and familiar faces from last year. Our members blog with links to previous series is here.

We kicked off the series from Chaddesden Park and then headed to Derby North for the second event. Thankfully very few tales of woe to report although one competitor returned tonight having had a fight with a thorn bush. And another forgot their running kit but still competed in jeans!

There are often no preferred routes between controls in technical parts of the course (Derby North)!

Belper was hilly – reducing climb as well as distance became the challenge – and the start (video here) in a flat park was deceptive.

Spondon was flatter but our planner pushed us to the limits with many tricky route choice decisions.

We ran from Oakwood on a beautiful evening winter evening where the navigation on two of the park areas proved to be quite tricky.

And in Hackwood we had the weather to contend with – well done to all who joined us for a run in the snow!

Ilkeston had everyone saying ‘I’m sure it wasn’t this cold last year’ as the temperatures dropped below zero again but the hilly town centre soon got everyone’s blood pumping (video here).

Heavy rain in Allestree threatened to dampen the final event but thankfully dried up half an hour before the mass start. Excellent fun was had by all!

Everyone enjoying a well earned drink!

**Our next Maprun series Spring 2025 will begin on 16th Jan in Heanor**

Fancy rerunning any of the previous mapruns: You can print out your map or navigate using the MapRun map on your smartphone as the courses will remain active for at least a year!
